SWABI, Feb 7: A Pakistani expatriate was killed by unidentified armed robbers on resistance at his house near Yar Hussain police station Monday night.

Alamzeb Khan had returned from Saudi Arabia 10 days ago, his brother Jehanzeb Khan told police.

He said 10 robbers armed with automatic weapons forced their way into the house at around 2:00am, seized arms and cellphones and tried to hold people, including women, hostage but beat them up on resistance.

Mr Jehanzeb said three intruders entered his room and some went to the deceased’s room, while the rest stood guard in the lawn.

He said the armed men beat women up after the latter resisted the former’s bid to rob them of jewellery. He said in the meantime, he heard a gunshot from his brother’s room that led to the intruders’ escape.

Mr Jehanzeb said he rushed to the room where his brother was lying on the floor in a pool of blood, while his wife was crying close at hand. He said he took his critically injured brother to the Civil Hospital, Yar Hussain, where he died shortly thereafter.

Mr Jehanzeb said police had registered a murder case against unidentified people.

Police said one of the robbers seemed to have suffered injuries as they had found blood on the path from the house to Shewa Adda.

The slain expatriate’s family brought in sniffer dogs to trace intruders but the dogs didn’t move ahead of Shewa Adda, said a local, Amjid Iqbal.

People of the area complained of insecurity and criticised police over failure to protect their life and property.

Meanwhile, the Awami National Party leaders in Swabi district on Tuesday demanded the award of a Senate ticket to former local MPA Aamir Rehman.

They told a news conference that eight of the 11 lawmakers from the district belonged to ANP and that locals had great contributions towards the party’s popularity and province’s development.

The ANP leaders said Aamir Rehman should be given the Senate ticket in line with the demand of the party leaders and workers from six provincial assembly constituencies.

It is learnt that the party will choose between Swabi’s Aamir Rehman and Bannu’s Baz Mohammad today (Wednesday).

Intizar Mohammad, general secretary of PK-32, Swabi-11, said: “People of Swabi have rendered great sacrifices since the pre-partition period. We appealed to the central leadership for the award of the Senate ticket to Aamir Rehman because leaders of rival parties criticise us saying no body listen to us.”

He said local ANP workers hoped that the leadership would meet their demand.

The news conference was also attended by former MNA Rehmanullah, ministers and MPAs.
