LAHORE, Jan 25: Model Town division police claim to have busted three gangs of hardened criminals and arrested their 15 members besides arresting the ringleader of a dacoits' gang in injured condition in the last one week.

Police recovered looted items, motorcycles and illegal weapons from the arrested accused who confessed to committing dozens of house robberies, burglaries and street crime during the preliminary interrogation.

DIG (Operations) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, flanked by Model Town SP (Operations) Malik Muhammad Awais, told reporters on Wednesday that the gangs were involved in multiple robberies, burglaries and street crime.

He said a Kahna police team raided Sadhoki locality on Tuesday last to arrest proclaimed offender Yaqoob alias Boka, but he opened fire on police which was returned.

The police firing left Yaqoob injured and he was arrested with a weapon. He was admitted to the Lahore General Hospital in police custody.

The DIG said the accused and his missing accomplices would torture victims and injure them with firing during house robberies and the street crime.

Mr Dogar said an Ichhra police team arrested three members of a burglars' gang (Chand gang) and seized from them cell phones, batteries, chargers, converters, multiple keys, cutters, computers and electronic goods.

He said the Ichhra police also busted a gang of dacoits, arrested its six members led by Haseeb Kamboh and recovered from them eight cell phones, three motorcycles and illegal weapons.

The accused confessed to committing more than 11 robberies.

He said a Liaquatabad police team nabbed five members of the Sabi dacoits gang and recovered from them two motorcycles, cell phones, other valuables and illegal weapons.
