KARACHI, Jan 24: A young man was killed in celebratory firing at a wedding in a New Karachi locality, police said on Tuesday. They said that the incident took place late on Monday night in New Karachi’s Sector 11-F, where a wedding was taking place and some friends of the groom were firing into the air to celebrate the occasion.

However, suddenly a bullet hit a young man, identified as 32-year-old Waqas, who died on the spot.

The police said that the man who was reportedly firing into the air managed to escape.

The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The SHO of the New Karachi Industrial Area police station, Inspector Ishtiaq Ghauri, said that the police detained the groom’s father, Abdul Qayum.

The victim was a resident of the same area and was a garments factory employee.
