Fashion returns to Hyderabad

Hyderabad is a city synonymous with fresh fish, creamy rabree (a saturated milk sweet) and mithais (desi sweets). It also has its own fashion triumphs: Hyderabadi thread- work bangles being home to some of the biggest bangle industries.

The entertainment-starved locals of Hyderabad welcomed the city’s first fashion show in 10 years with top models, topped with a concert featuring Princess Annie, Falak, Amanat Ali and Ali Khan.

The show, held at the 144-year-old Hyderabad Gymkhana, was titled Vibration Funk Walk 2012 and showcased collections from a mix palette of designers comprising Element Jeans, Lahore based Arif Ashraf, Hasina Khanani, Ralli, Fateh Exclusive and Spring Chain. – Photos by Raza Jaffri, text by Moiz Kazmi/Dawn.com

A nice change for denizens of Hyderabad. You forgot to mention the good old Bombay Bakery whose cakes were praised by the Indian poet Tagore.

excellent job, more such fashion and musical shows should be held across the country to give the people a chance to enjoy life for a change and to take their mind off many troubles facing the country.

Viewing those models in the eight slides were of course not very inspiring but the slides still gave an idea that modern Pakistan is colorful and multicultural. Of course, they represent not more than 1 per cent, of the total population (180 million!) but still they do represent authentically Pakistan's upper fashion-conscious liberal elite!

I did not know that the famous bakery has been baking cakes since R.N. Tagore's time, and that the poet actually tasted its cake. You seem to know much more about my most favourite bakery, so please let me know when did Bombay Bakery in Hyderabad start its business of making the cakes. Thanks.
