GUJRANWALA, Jan 21: A bank manager was shot dead while resisting a dacoity bid in Allama Iqbal Colony, Dhulley, on Saturday.

Police said four dacoits in the guise of 'guests' knocked at the door of the house of Nazir Ahmad, manager of a bank branch at Ghakkhar. When Nazir's daughter Khadija, a BA student, opened the door, the outlaws introduced themselves as guests of her father and managed to enter the house.They immediately took the girl hostage and started collecting valuables. In the meantime, Nazir came from inside the house and tried to offer resistance. At this, one of the dacoits opened fire on Nazir leaving him dead on the spot. The intruders ned the scene.

Dhulley police have registered a case.

PROTEST: Businessmen, transporters and civil society have demanded that federal government and the National Highway Authority (NHA) early completion of Khiali Bypass flyover.Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Malik Zaheerul Haq, transport federation secretary Ilyas, civil society representative Waheed Ahmad Butt and businessman Adnan Ahmad told reporters the federal government project was lying incomplete for the last many years mainly for non-provision of funds.

They said the incomplete project was not only causing a great deal of inconvenience to the public but also adversely impacting business activities in the city.
