LAHORE, Jan 20: Wapda and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) reached the 31st U-21 National Junior hockey championship final winning their respective semi-finals at the National Hockey Stadium here on Friday.

A golden goal by Mohammad Umair enabled Wapda to eliminate the challenge of Sui Southern Gas Company 3-2, after the two teams were locked at 2-2 at the end of the stipulated time. He scored a field goal in the 81st minute.

Earlier, SSGC made a good start taking 2-0 lead as their Waseem Abbas (35th) and Hafiz Umer (49th) struck the goals.

But Wapda fought back gallantly when M. Suleman scored a field goal in the 66th minute and then two minutes later Asad equalised the score.

The NBP also recovered to beat Punjab Colours 2-1.

Punjab opened the account in the third minute through M. Mushtaq, who converted a penalty-corner in the third minute.

But the bankers soon restored the parity as their Ahmed Zubair found the cage in the 16th minute and then Kashif Javed struck the winner in the 46th minute.

The final will be played on Monday.—Sports Reporter
