THIS is apropos of the report, 'Mistaken target: two women shot dead in Pims' (Jan 15). Two women, including the mother of a joint secretary of the Cabinet Division, were killed in an attack on an under-trial prisoner at the VIP ward of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Islamabad.

It is surprising that even many an hour after the two women were shot dead and another was injured at Pims, the police were not able to find a clueto the two attackers. However, no clue could also be found from the CCTV footage to the attackers, as they had entered the hospital through broken grills of its boundary and reached the VIP ward from a dark passageway (Jan 17).

This reflects inefficiency and carelessness on the part of police escorts responsible for guarding the under-trial prisoner and at the same time Pims's security and its managements for having a very poorcontrol on access to the hospital, especially the VIP ward, where a prisoner was admitted.

What is needed is to have a separate ward for prisoners' treatment in all hospitals. This would spare other patients of any such calamity as bell the other day at Pimps.

Also, there should be a comprehensive physical security plan of the hospital.
