MITHI, Jan 16: A woman was stripped in front of a large number of people and tortured for hours in a village of Chhachbro taluka on Sunday. Villagers alleged that a landlord and his henchmen had perpetrated the crime.

According to the villagers, the criminals tortured the hapless woman for hours and then abandoned her on a street.

A group of journalists took her to hospital after having rushed to the place upon getting a tipoff about the ghastly episode.

Taugir Fatima Bhutto, the minister for women's welfare, directed the commissioner of Mirpurkhas to get a case registered against perpetrators of the disgraceful act.

Police said they had already registered a case on complaint of the victim against wadera Haroon Langho, his son Arbab, Khamiso, Ghulam Mustafa and Anwar Langho.

In reply to a question whether any of the accused had been arrested, the SHO of Chhachbro police station told Dawn that a police party had been sent to Valasro village for the purpose.

Doctors at the hospital where the woman was admitted told reporters on Sunday that since no lady doctor was available at Chhachbro, she was being referred to the Civil Hospital in Mithi. But the medical superintendent of the Civil Hospital said no such woman had been referred to the hospital till Monday afternoon.
