KARACHI, Jan 14: The trussed-up body of a young man was found in the Lyari area on Saturday, police said.

They said that the bullet-riddled body with hands and legs tied up was found near Niazi Chowk on Shah Waliullah Road in the early hours of Saturday.

“The victim was identified as 25-year-old Nasir Ali Baloch,” said Inspector Safdar Mashwani, the SHO of the Kalri police station.

“He was a resident of the Baghdadi area and worked as a daily wage earner in the production unit of a pharmaceutical company in SITE. He had left his workplace on Friday evening and had since been missing.”

He said that the police believed that the victim was kidnapped, brutally tortured and then shot dead. He sustained two bullet wounds in the head, he added.

The victim was unmarried and did not have any criminal record, the area SHO said, ruling out  that the victim was murdered due to some personal enmity. He added that gang rivalry could be the cause of the killing.

Woman dies from burn wounds A young woman died after suffering burn wounds under mysterious circumstances in the Landhi area on Saturday, police said.

The police said that Haider Zaman, the husband of 31-year-old Anum Bibi, returned to his Sherpao Colony home in the early hours of Saturday after spending some time with his friends in the same street as per his routine.

“He came out screaming shortly after he had entered his house and found his wife lying unconscious in the kitchen with multiple burn wounds,” said an official at the Quaidabad police station. “ Some neighbours helped him shift his wife to the burns ward of the Civil Hospital Karachi, where she died.”

He said that the medico-legal section of the hospital had reserved the final findings of a post-mortem examination and sent samples for a chemical examination.

The couple was married some 13 years ago and had no child, he said, adding that Mr Zaman dealt in second-hand clothes.

“We have not yet detained anyone. Nor has anyone from the woman’s family come forward to express any doubts. We have examined the victim’s house and kitchen to collect some evidence,” added the official.
