KARACHI, Jan 9: A famous Nauhakhwan, who is also a member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement elders' committee, died at a local hospital on Monday from the bullet wounds he had sustained in an alleged sectarian attack last Saturday, police said.

They said that Syed Qalbe Abbas Rizvi was standing in front of a general store in Surjani Town's Block 7-A when armed men targetedhim and escaped on Saturday evening.

He sustained bullet wounds and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died on Monday.

A duty officer at the Surjani Town police station said that the victim was a member of the MQM elders' committee.

Police said that initial investigations suggested that it was a sectarian killing case.Tension gripped parts of Federal B Area when the victim's body was brought to the Ancholi area. Later, he was buried in the Wadi-i-Hussain graveyard.

A case (FIR 16/2012) was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against unidentified gunmen on a complaint of the victim's son, Danish.
