
According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ending December 23, 2011, deposits and other accounts of the scheduled banks increased in the current week and stood at Rs5630.0bn, higher by Rs65.7bn over preceding week’s figure of Rs5564.3bn.
Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs4960.3bn, the current week’s figure is larger by Rs669.7bn. During the current week, commercial banks deposits showed a rise of Rs65.4bn over the week to Rs5615.8bn, against preceding week’s Rs5550.4bn. Specialised banks deposits stood at Rs14.2bn.
Borrowings by all scheduled banks increased in the week. It rose to Rs706.8bn over preceding week’s figure of Rs662.1bn, or by Rs44.7bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs508.2bn, current week’s figure is higher by Rs198.6bn. Commercial banks borrowings increased to Rs632.7bn against previous week’s Rs587.9bn, or by Rs44.8bn. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs74.1bn.
Gross advances stood at Rs3415.7bn in the week under review, an increased of Rs18.0bn over preceding week’s figure of Rs3397.7bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs3454.2bn, current week’s figure is smaller by Rs38.5bn. In the week under review, advances by commercial banks rose to Rs3301.0bn against earlier week’s figure of Rs3282.9bn, or by Rs18.1bn. Advances of specialized banks stood at Rs114.7bn.
Investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs2944.6bn, against preceding week’s figure of Rs2941.0bn, an increase of Rs3.6bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs2034.8bn, current week’s figure is larger by Rs909.8bn. In the current week, commercial banks investment stood at Rs2927.6bn, against preceding week’s figure of Rs2924.0bn, a rise of Rs3.6bn. Specialised banks investment stood at Rs16.9bn.
Cash and balances with treasury banks of all scheduled banks increased by Rs26.0bn during the week to stand at Rs501.5bn against earlier week’s Rs475.5bn. Current week’s figure is higher by Rs88.8bn compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs412.7bn.
In the current week, the figure for commercial banks stood at Rs498.9bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs472.9bn, a rise of Rs26.0bn, while of specialized banks it stood at Rs2.6bn.
Balances with other banks increased to Rs167.2bn against Rs160.8bn in the previous week, or by Rs6.4bn. It was higher by Rs26.4bn against Rs140.8bn in the corresponding week last year. Balances of all commercial banks stood at Rs156.9bn, a rise of Rs5.8bn over preceding week’s figure of Rs151.1bn. Balances of specialised banks stood at Rs10.3bn.
Total assets of scheduled banks stood at Rs7556.9bn, higher by Rs101.6bn, over preceding week’s figure of Rs7455.3bn. Current week’s figure was higher by Rs973.4bn compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs6583.5bn.
In the current week, commercial banks assets stood at Rs7414.6bn, higher by Rs101.2bn over previous week’s figure of Rs7313.4bn, while of specialised banks it stood at Rs142.3bn.
