LAHORE, Jan 4: Gunmen shot at and injured three employees of a confectionary and looted cash and valuables worth Rs3.1 million in six hits in the city on Wednesday.

Police said three gunmen stormed into the bakery of Khadim Husain in Baghbanpura and looted Rs25,000 and three cell phones from officials.

They injured three employees -- Sabir, Irfan and Nasir -- with gunshot wounds when they resisted them. The suspects fled the scene. The injured were shifted to a local hospital. In another hit, four gunmen barged into the house of Imtiaz in Garden Town police limits and took away cash and valuables.

Some robbers also looted cash and valuables from the house of Shafee in Islampura police area.

Also, robbers looted Rs600,000 from the house of Abdul Rehman in Nishtar Colony police jurisdiction, valuables worth Rs500,000 from the house of Safdar in Johar Town and valuables worth Rs400,000 from the house of Akram in North Cantonment police limits.

ARRESTED: Factory Area investigation police claim to have traced the blind murder of a 37-year-old oil vendor and arrested his wife and a constable.

Police say suspects identified as Naseem and constable Shahid Manzoor murdered Ghulam Fareed in Sitara Colony. Police said Naseem, who worked in a medicine company, planned to kill her husband, Fareed, a father of two daughters, in connivance with her boyfriend constable Shahid on Dec 21, 2011.

Naseem served Fareed tea spiked with intoxicant. When he fell unconscious, Shahid came there and shot Fareed twice and fled with Rs30,000 and jewllery. Naseem alerted the police and pretended that unidentified people looted cash and valuables and killed her husband on resistance.

A team led by Defence Circle ASP Fida Hussain got a clue from Nasim's cell data showing repeated calls on her number at the night of the incident. The caller on the side was police constable Shahid.

Police interrogated Shahid and Nasim who confessed to offence.Shahid is posted in Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines and also works as hair-dresser along with his father and brother. The suspects told the police that they got acquaintance with each other during a phone call.

KILLED: A man was killed and another sustained injuries in a road accident on Factory Area Road in Shahdara on Wednesday.

Shahdara police said motorcyclists Abdul Basit and his friend Jamshaid were hit and injured by a truck coming from behind. The injured friends were taken to Mayo Hospital where Basit died.

Meanwhile, Kahna police said 35-year-old Nadeem, who was hit and injured by a car in Suay Asal a couple of days ago, succumbed to his wounds at Lahore General Hospital. — Staff Reporter
