MUZAFFARABAD, Nov 25: Two women were killed and at least 11 people injured in Azad Kashmir in Indian shelling since Sunday night, police said on Monday.

The shelling, during which Indian troops used small and heavy arms, began at about 4:45am on Monday in Chakothi sector, Neelum and Leepa valleys, and continued till the afternoon in intervals.

A police official told Dawn that Saira Bibi, wife of Khadim Hussain, was killed and Altaf Hussain was injured in Pahal village in Chakothi sector when shells landed on their homes.

In Leepa Valley, the shelling caused death of 14-year-old Rukhsana, daughter of Mahmood, in Nokot village. Her sister Zarina and seven others: Rafiqa, daughter of Dilbar Malik; Fatima, daughter of Ghulam Ahmed; Ghulshan and Sareena, daughters of Abdullah Butt; Ghulam Hussain, son of Abdullah Butt; Khurshid Ahmed, son of Ali Mir; and Sarwar Jan, wife of Mohammad Zaman, were injured in Kaiserkot, Nokot and Gheekot villages. At least four houses were damaged in the villages.

A woman and a 12-year-old boy were injured in Leepa Valley on Sunday night.

No casualty was reported from Neelum Valley. However, the official quoting initial reports said at least four houses were damaged in Athmuqam and one in Kel.
