New IG for prisons

Published December 31, 2011

LAHORE, Dec 30: The Punjab government on Friday transferred Inspector General Prisons Kokab Nadeem Warraich and appointed Mian Farooq Nazir as new prisons chief.

The decision was taken after a committee constituted by the Punjab chief secretary reviewed representation of Mr Nazir, challenging the posting of Kokab Warraich as IG.

According to a notification, Mr Warraich has been transferred and posted Coordinator to Punjab Prison Reforms Group, Home Department, Punjab, in place of Mr Nazir, BS-20 officer, who has been appointed IG Prisons in his own pay and scale.

Mr Warraich, a BS-19 officer, was earlier appointed as IG Prisons in March 2009, in the governor rule, but he was not restored to his earlier position even after the restoration of the Shahbaz government in April 2009. Mr Nazir also served as IG Prisons on additional charge in 2008.— Staff Reporter
