LAHORE, Dec 29: The Pakistan People's Party has finally given a party office to former law minister Senator Babar Awan.

There has been criticism in and outside the party that Mr Awan, who actively represents the PPP at all forums, does not have party office.

PPP co-chairman President Asif Ali Zardari notified him on Thursday as vice-president of the PPP. Earlier, the party had no office of president or vice-president.

'It is a senior post and comes after the chairman, cochairman and the vice-chairman if we interpret it,' a PPP leader told Dawn.

Mr Awan after quitting as law minister pursues the president's reference about the Z.

A. Bhutto case in the Supreme Court. 'Giving him the office means he will be engaged to streamline the party affairs, the PPP leader said.
