SRINAGAR, Nov 22: Two militants dressed in police uniforms fought their way into an army camp in Srinagar on Friday and killed six Indian soldiers.

Both attackers also died in the firefight.

Officials said Indian forces were looking for a third militant who had opened fire from outside the hotel where the camp was located.

Militants lobbed grenades and fired automatic weapons as they stormed the hotel in a busy part of Srinagar.

“The idea was to inflict maximum damage, it was a suicide attack,” said the chief of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force.

The Lashkar-i-Taiba claimed responsibility for the attack and said four members of its suicide squad had stormed the camp.

“Two of our Mujahideen achieved martyrdom and two managed to escape after killing 11 to 16 security personnel,” it said.—Reuters
