QUETTA: Balochistan Agriculture Minister Mir Asad Baloch announced in the provincial assembly on Saturday that he would not attend the session till the arrest of the killers of Dr Nasim Baloch, the chief medical officer of Gwadar DHQ hospital who was gunned down in Pasni on Friday.

The minister, who is secretary general of the Balochistan National Party (Awami), then walked out of the house along with two other ministers in protest against the poor performance of the police in the province.

Speaker Aslam Bhootani chaired the session.

The ministers said that murder of doctors and engineers in Balochistan had become routine and urged Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani to take notice of the police failure to protect the lives of people.

Earlier, on a point of order, Mr Asad said that Dr Nasim was a sympathiser of his party in Pasni. He said despite the fact that an amount of Rs11 billion had been allocated for police in the 2011-12 budget they had failed to live up to the expectations of people.

However, ministers Habibur Rehman Muhammadhasni and Ismail Gujar persuaded their cabinet colleagues Asghar Ali Rind and Ghulam Jan Baloch to return to the house.Ministers Hammal Kalmati, Nasreen Khetran, Khaliq Bashardost, Abdur Rehman Mengal and Zahoor Buledi condemned the murder of Dr Nasim Baloch. They said it was the responsibility of the government to protect people’s lives and called upon the government to restore law and order in the province.

The session was adjourned till Tuesday.
