BADIN, Nov 22: The farmers have opposed supply of irrigation water to the Fauji Sugar Mills, Khoski, and warned of launching a campaign against the Area Water Board (AWB), Badin, if the water rotation plan was violated.

They opposed the water supply to the mill at a meeting of the AWB, held here on Thursday and presided over by the board chairman, Haji Abdul Ghafoor Nizamani.

During the meeting, a representative of the sugar mill demanded the restoration of water supply to the mill from the Shadi Wah for one day.

The growers, who attended the meeting, raised objection over the demand, and said that managements of the sugar mill were pushing sugarcane growers to heavy losses by delaying the crushing season and thus violating the notification of the Sindh government.

The farmers warned the irrigation officials, particularly the executive engineer, Akram Wah, not to breach the water rotation schedule, for supplying water to the sugar mill.

Hot words were exchanged between the director, AWB, Saindino Mangrio, and the executive engineer, Akram Wah division, over the issue of water supply to the sugar mill.

Mangrio supported immediate supply of water to the mill while the XEN refused to do so as, saying he was not prepared to breach the water rotation plan.

The chairman of the AWB was also of the view that the mill should get water “in the national interest”.

CANAL BREACH: Meanwhile, a 20-foot breach occurred in the Tando Ghulam Ali Minor and inundated land.

The irrigation staff, with the help of the villagers, plugged the breach.
