HYDERABAD, Dec 9: District police have arrested five accused in armed robberies cases and are verifying information relating to possible involvement of one of them in the murder case of an electronic media journalist Wali Khan Babar of Karachi.

A week ago Pinyari police had arrested Kamran alias Abba, Faheem alias Baddu, Naeem Qureshi, Adil Sheikh and Sohail Khanzada. Faheem and Kamran are said to be residents of Karachi while others belonged to Hyderabad.

Pinyari police had picked them up in connection with robbery cases. They had reports that the gang would commit robbery at the workplace of a jeweller in the city.

In the meantime, they were handed over to CIA Hyderabad for further interrogation. Police got information that Faheem alias Baddu is said to be involved in the murder case of Wali Babar.

The information was communicated to CID Karachi. Local police officials who were interrogating them made their own queries and ruled out Faheem's involvement in Wali Babar case.

A police source said that investigating officer of Wali Babar case spoke to local police officials and said that no nominated or absconding accused called Faheem is required in the case.

A senior police official Raja Umar Khitab also spoke to Hyderabad police. The incumbent SSP of Badin Naveed Khawaja who was posted in Liaquatabad, Karachi, at the time of the murder, and was associated with the case's investigation, is also in touch with Hyderabad police in this regard.

Police had to show the arrests officially on Friday and they obtained their three-day remand from the court of Judicial Magistrate-XII in a case lodged by Sakhi Pir police.

Seven cases had been lodged against them now on the charge of their involvement in different crimes, including possessing illegal arms, police encounter and dacoity. Kamran had already been challaned in another case.
