LAHORE, Dec 5: A 40-year-old man was gunned down allegedly by his rival near Shahdara railway station on Monday.

Shahdara Town police said Nadeem of the Flour Mills area was going on foot when his rival, Riaz alias Raja Jutt, shot at and injured him. Nadeem succumbed to his wound at Mayo Hospital.

The police shifted the body to the morgue for autopsy.

DIES: A 35-year-old woman died of burns in Mayo Hospital on Monday a day after she was burnt in her house on McLeod Road. Kiran’s family alleged that she was set on fire by her husband, Tariq Masih, while the suspect claimed his wife, Kiran, set her ablaze over some domestic issue.

Kiran was a mother of four.

Kiran’s mother alleged that Tariq often used to quarrel with her daughter.

On the other hand, Tariq told the police Kiran committed self-immolation after he did not allow her to attend her brother’s engagement.

The police took Tariq into custody and registered a case against him.

PRISONERS DIE: Two prisoners died in Kot Lakhpat Central Jail on Monday.

The Kot Lakhpat station house officer said 40-year-old Javed Masih of Samanabad died of a cardiac arrest. He was convicted in a theft case registered with the Samanabad police in 2011.

The SHO said 42-year-old Muhammad Aslam of Burewala died due kidney failure. He was convicted in a murder case registered with the Factory Area police in 2007.
