Man recovered

ISLAMABAD, Dec 1: A retired engineer of Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL), who was kidnapped for ransom about two months back, has been recovered from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; police said here on Thursday.

Mohammad Naeem went missing on October 10 after leaving his Chak Shahzad house for Abbottabad.

Later, his family received a call from Naeem’s cellphone in which a man demanded Rs10 million for his release. The family lodged a complaint with the Shahzad Town police against the person(s) on October 15.

A police team led by SP Rural Faisal Bashir Memon and subdivisional police officer Khan Khursheed Ahmad raided the localities in KP, including Batgram, Allai, Bisham, Mansehra and Abbottabad.

On Wednesday, the police traced the outlaws in Kohati hills between Swabi and Mardan districts and raided the area along with the KP police. The kidnappers opened fire on the police. However, when the police retaliated, they escaped. A search in the area led to the recovery of the kidnap victim who was brought back to Islamabad.

It was revealed that the victim was trapped by the kidnappers with the help of a girl on whose invitation he went to Abbottabad from where he was abducted.—Staff Reporter

Minor killed on road

TAXILA, Dec 1: A minor was killed after being hit by a speedy van on Hazara Road in the limits of Hassanabdal police station on Thursday.

Police and hospital sources said that Mohammad Umer, 7, was crossing the road when a speedy van knocked him down. He was taken to local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver along with vehicle fled the scene. The police registered a case and started investigation. Correspondent

Inquiry commission

ISLAMABAD, Dec 1: The members of the inquiry commission on Saleem Shahzad murder after hearing the officials of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) on Thursday decided to have a final meeting with the widow of the slain journalists.

ISI officials including the head of its media cell Rear Admiral Adnan Nazeer, Brig Zahid and DDG ISI Commodore Pervaiz Khalid appeared before the commission and responded the queries.

The commission chaired by Justice Saqib Nisar, has already retrieved the e-mails of Saleem Shazad.

“His one account has 34,000 mails and the second one has 19,000 mails,” said one member of the commission on condition of anonymity, “After the appearance of the ISI officials it has been decided that commission would meet the widow of Saleem Shazad again.”

Chairman of the commission Justice Saqib Nisar nominated member of the commission Pervaiz Shaukat, President PFUJ to go to Karachi and meet the widow of the journalist. — A Reporter

Workshop at HEC

ISLAMABAD, Dec 1: In order to improve quality of English language teaching at college level, a workshop on Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) was held at Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Thursday.

The event is part of the workshops being organised by HEC English Language Teaching Reforms (ELTR) Project in collaboration with the British Council from Dec 30 to Dec 17 in Islamabad, Multan and Karachi.

As many as 20 participants from different universities and colleges attended the workshop where Prof Dr Khwaja Azam Ali, Managing Director, Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), HEC was the chief guest. The workshops are aimed at providing all-out international exposure to English faculty of colleges and universities. HEC has been endeavoring to enhance the quality of teaching process at the college level. —A Reporter
