WASHINGTON, Nov. 19: The State Department on Monday advised the US citizens not to travel to Afghanistan, saying the ability of the Afghan authorities to maintain order and ensure security remained limited.

The warning also said remnants of the Afghanistan’s former Taliban regime and Al Qaeda network were still active in the country.

“Criminal elements ... and other groups hostile to the government also remain active,” it said.

The warning, which replaces the one issued on July 3, emphasized “the US embassy’s limited capability” to provide consular services to the Americans visiting Afghanistan and warns that “the security threat to all the US citizens in Afghanistan remains high.”
