KARACHI: The Government of Sindh has signed four MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) with two Chinese companies for investment in energy projects worth $10 billion.

“The investment will be made by the Chinese companies in Thar coal, wind power and manufacturing plant for wind turbines,” said Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Khuhro while addressing a press conference on Wednesday.

The chairman Sindh Board of Investment Zubair Motiwala and Secretary Sindh Energy Board Younus Dhaga were also present during the press conference.

Khuhro said that under the MoU signed with 3-Goges Corp, 1000 MW electricity will be produced through wind mills to be installed along the coastal belt covering Thatta and Badin areas in three phases.

He said under the second MoU, 4000 MW electricity will be produced by exploiting the coal resources of Thar, while the third MoU of 300 MW coal energy project will be initiated at Sonda area of Thatta.

The Speaker said that the fourth MoU signed with Ocean Group of China, which already has its presence in Pakistan, a 150 MW energy production project will be launched in interior Sindh.

“The investment will be made in phases during next 5 to 6 years,” the speaker maintained and added that all the MoUs were signed in Beijing.

Replying to questions Khuhro said that these companies have signed the MoUs after reviewing all the pros and cons of the investments in the province.

He further said the development projects have already been launched in Thar area to facilitate the investment by Sindh government in collaboration with the federal government.
