KARACHI, Nov 15: The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) on Tuesday claimed to have seized 10.2 tonnes of hashish said to be worth around Rs500 million.An ANF handout stated that the contraband was seized from a container that had arrived at the Port Qasim and was bound for Germany.
It was booked from the Sambrial dry port in Sialkot, the handout added.
The container was inspected on Thursday last and the hashish packed in 510 cartons concealed in fabric rolls was recovered, it said.
According to the handout, two suspects have been arrested in connection with the haul and a further investigation is under way.
It is the biggest ever haul of any contraband from a foreign-bound container in Sindh, says the ANF.
110kg heroin found in abandoned truck
A huge quantity of heroin was seized from an abandoned truck in Lyari, police said on Tuesday.
The police said that the truck (TAA-285) was parked on Mirza Adam Khan Road within the remit of the Kalri police station and was causing a great hindrance to the flow of vehicular traffic in the locality.
When it continued to block traffic for some time and no one bothered to remove it, the police intervened and noticed three gunny bags of white powder placed in the vehicle.
The powder was tested and it emerged that it was heroin, SHO of the Kalri police station Asif Munawwar said, adding that the three bags weighed about 110 kilograms.
The truck was impounded and taken to the police station, he said.
An FIR was yet to be registered till late in the evening.
