MULTAN: Former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday said that Raymond Davis did not have diplomatic immunity and that President Asif Ali Zardari was pushing to grant immunity to the CIA contractor, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives at the Multan airport, he stressed that elections should be held under an impartial election commission.

Responding to criticism from certain sections within the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Qureshi said he was “never associated with Ziaul Haq” and that allegations against him to that effect were baseless.

However, Qureshi did say that his father had associations with General Ziaul Haq and he had never denied that.

Regarding his ties to Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif, Qureshi said he had personal ties with the leader and would meet Sharif if he requested to hold talks with him.

He further said that Pakistan was self-sufficient in urea production but the farmers of southern Punjab were protesting due to their increased agricultural problems.
