POA yet to receive court orders

ISLAMABAD, Nov 16: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has yet to make preparations to hold elections of Pakistan Amateur Athletic Federation (PAAF) as it has not received a written court verdict.

“We have yet to receive court verdict in writing,” POA secretary general, Mohammad Latif Butt, said.

The senior civil judge, Islamabad, in a verdict on Nov 3, had suspended the functioning of PAAF and its rival group and ordered POA to hold fresh elections within a month.

The POA secretary general assured that preparations will be afoot for holding PAAF elections within the stipulated period once the court orders are received in writing.

Latif agreed with newsmen that PAAF infighting had a bad effect on the morale of national athletes. “Perhaps, that is the reason that our female athletes couldn’t perform well during the Islamic Women Solidarity Games in Iran recently,” he said.

He stressed ceremonies such as giving cash prizes to women table tennis players should be shown live on TV. “This could have a positive effect on the players performance,” he said.—APP
