Flower’s run of big scores continue

CHITTAGONG, Nov 16: Andy Flower survived a collision with Bangladesh left-arm spinner Enamul Haque to score his 12th Test century on the second day of the second Test on Friday.

Flower, who left the field for 90 minutes with his score 70 not out, continued his remarkable run of big scores with an unbeaten 110 as Zimbabwe took their overnight total of 236 for four to 542 for seven declared. In reply Bangladesh were 57 for one at the close.

Left-hander Flower struck 11 fours, reaching his century with a reverse sweep.

Craig Wishart also took advantage of the weak Bangladesh bowling to score his first Test century with 118.

Wishart, who struck 94 not out in the drawn first Test, hit 10 fours and two spectacular sixes, scoring his runs from 139 balls in 173 minutes.

He was out lofting leg-spinner Mohammad Ashraful to Mohammad Sharif at deep mid-wicket.

Opener Trevor Gripper was the third centurion with 112 run out on Thursday’s opening day.

When Bangladesh batted, Flower completed another fine day’s work by catching opener Javed Omar off the bowling of Heath Streak for eight.

Al Sahariar (25 not out) and Habibul Bashar (21) then steadied the innings with an unbroken partnership of 42.

“I believe our batsmen will also exploit the pitch as our guests have done and will avoid the follow-on,” said captain Naimur Rahman.
