PHC bench in Malakand demanded

Published November 17, 2002

MINGORA, Nov 16: The demand for the establishment of a circuit bench of the Peshawar High Court and a division bench of the Federal Shariat   Court in Malakand is growing.

The Malakand Loya Jirga and the Malakand Qaumi Jirga, have been raising the issues for many years.

It becomes difficult for the residents of the defunct Malakand division to appear in the courts early in the morning for their cases. So a majority  of the poor people avoid filing a case or appeal in the higher courts and  thus justices is denied to them, which causes resentment among them.

The lawyers of the area have also endorsed the demand.

The circuit benches have already been established in Dera Ismail Khan and Hazara divisions.

The government has tried to solve the problem by establishing the Qazi  courts and appointing new judicial officers in the division, but the number  of the courts is still insufficient for providing speedy justice to the people of the area.

Many official have visited Swat in order to select a site for the circuit bench, but the work has not started so far.
