LAHORE, Nov 16: The defection clauses in the law and the constitution were still in tact and those in the PPP forward bloc would stand unseated if they support the PML-Q in the assembly, sources in the federal government said here on Saturday.

Federal Minister for Law Dr Khalid Ranjha had informed newsmen in Lahore on Friday that the defection clause had been amended.

According to the official sources, the defection clauses in the constitution, the Legal Framework Order (LFO) and the Representation of Peoples Act remained unamended todate. “We are dead sure about this,” they said.

They said the LFO had diluted the defection clause in the constitution but the Representation of the Peoples Act clearly said that those elected on party tickets would lose their seats in the assembly in case of their support to other party.

The sources also said that after the taking of oath by the president under the constitution, judges of the Supreme and High courts could also be asked to do the same.
