KARACHI, Nov 2: Two suspects were killed and a policeman was wounded in a police encounter on Manghopir Road on Wednesday evening, police said.

A duty officer at the Manghopir police station said a police patrol signalled two men riding a motorcycle but they did not stop and instead started firing.

A bullet hit HHead Constable Qalandar Bux and the police also returned fire that killed both suspects, he added.

West SSP Asif Ejaz Shaikh told Dawn that police were more vigilant in the area due to the increased movement of criminals from Hub to the city or vice versa via Mangopir Road.

He said that police got information about two suspicious men and the shoot-out took place when they attempted to stop them.

The police claimed to have recovered two TT pistols and a hand grenade from the suspects’ possession.

However, till late in the night, the identity of the deceased suspects could not be established.

The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

The SSP said that the head constable sustained three bullet wounds and was shifted to the Aga Khan University Hospital where he was said to be operated upon.
