Published November 15, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Nov 14: The Supreme Court on Thursday released the murderer of a six-year-old child on bail and warned the prison authorities to obey apex court orders or face strict action.

The Bench comprised Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, Justice Sardar Raza Muhammad Khan and Justice Falak Sher.

Safdar had killed a six-year-old child in 1994 and was awarded death penalty by the sessions court. When the convict approached the Lahore High Court, it converted the death sentence into life imprisonment.

Later, the convict had moved the Supreme Court for his release as he claimed of having served his sentence after counting remissions under Section 382. The apex court had ordered his release but the jail authorities were reluctant to release him on which the petitioner moved the Supreme Court.—APP
