RAWALPINDI, Nov 14: Work on the construction of new chambers for the lawyers on the premises of the district courts would start in the coming few weeks, Secretary General Rawalpindi Bar Association Mudassar Khalid Abbasi told Dawn on Thursday.

A new two-storey building comprising 90 chambers would be erected on the southern side of the Jinnah Hall almost at the centre of the district courts. The project would cost Rs 3.42 million.

He said the land had been acquired on a 30-year lease from the board of revenue and construction would be carried out on the basis of self-finance by the lawyers.

The ownership of each chamber would be provided to two lawyers, who would pay Rs 38,000 to the bar for getting ownership as well as Rs 500 annually to the board of revenue.

The ownership of 45 chambers would be given to those lawyers whose ramshackle chambers were already located on the land. Their chambers would be demolished for the new building.
