TAXILA, Nov 13: The 553rd birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikh religion, will be celebrated at Gurdwara Punja Sahib, Hassanabdal, on Thursday.

Over 700 Sikh Yatrees have arrived here to participate in the celebrations, however, the Indian Sikh pilgrims will not be able to attend the occasion due to suspension of road and railway links between India and Pakistan.

Local administration has made special arrangements to facilitate the Yatrees who are scheduled to leave Hassanabdal on November 16.

Personnel of law enforcing agencies, in plain clothes, are also deputed around the Gurdwara.

ANTI-ENCROACHMENT DRIVE: Tehsil Municipal Administration has launched a clean-up operation to remove encroachments on Faisal Shaheed Road and Railway Road.

The administration fined many encroachers and directed the vendors to remove goods from footpaths and roadside areas.

Presently, personnel of cantonment board, including gardeners and watchmen are collecting the tax, they added.

A sources told Dawn that no staff member of the board was entitled to collect the toll tax.
