LAHORE, Oct 18: Veteran journalist, writer and intellectual Hameed Akhtar was laid to rest in S-block Graveyard of the Defence Housing Authority on Tuesday.

Akhtar passed away on Sunday night. He was suffering from cancer. A large number of people including journalists, writers, intellectuals, his friends and colleagues offered funeral prayers at DD-block mosque in DHA.

Prominent on the occasion were Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Secretary-General IA Rehman, veteran journalist Husain Naqi, cartoonist Javed Iqbal, South Asian Free Media Association Director Imtiaz Alam, Tariq Farooq of the Labour Party, writer Javed Azhar, journalist Athar Abbas, folk singer Shaukat Ali, playwright Asghar Nadeem Syed, playwright and PTV’s former deputy managing-director Shahid Nadeem, senior journalist Khawar Naeem Hashmi and Usman Pirzada from Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop.

Qul will be held between Asr and Maghrib at DD-block mosque on Wednesday (today).
