KARACHI, Oct 5: An armed clash between two rival groups of a political party claimed the lives of two people in a Gulistan-i-Jauhar locality on Wednesday, police said.

They said that several others were also wounded in the clash that took place in Rabia City, a mega housing project, within the remit of the Sharea Faisal police station.

The police said that there was a monetary dispute over the shop of a junk dealer between the two groups, said to be affiliated with the Awami National Party.

SSP East Javed Odho told Dawn that some reports suggested that there was a sort of party meeting during which there was a quarrel, which led to the armed clash. Both the groups belonged to the ANP, the SSP added.

However, an ANP spokeman said that his party had nothing to do with the groups involved in the clash.

Hanif Mama, Ajmal Tareen, Abdul Razzak of the Hanif Mama group and Azeem alias Commando of the Ayaz KK group were wounded in the armed clash.

They were shifted to a hospital where Azeem and Ajmal died from their wounds.
