MARDAN, Oct 4: The young doctors of the Mardan Medical Complex (MMC) on Tuesday held a protest demonstration in front of the Mardan Press Club against non-payment of salaries for the last five months.

Led by Dr Fawad and Dr Hayat, over two dozen doctors took out a rally from district headquarters hospital to the building of the press club, blocking the road to press the authorities concerned to pay them their withheld salaries.

The young doctors, who have been performing their duties as house-job-doctors at the Mardan Medical Complex, said on the occasion they were promised by the principal of Bacha Khan Medical College Dr Zia-ul-Islam of payment of salary at the end of every month but unfortunately the promise was proved wrong.

They lamented that they had been facing financial problems amid price hike and non-payment of salaries. They alleged the senior doctors had been running their clinics and were busy earning money while the house-job-doctors had to attend all patients at the hospital as they were bound to ensure maximum presence at the hospital.

They demanded of the government to make all the fifty house-job-doctors in Mardan as paid house-job-doctors.

They, however, announced to observe continuous boycott of the OPD and operation theatres and other allied services from Wednesday (today) against non-payment of their salaries.
