ISLAMABAD, Oct 4: The capital police arrested 783 court absconders, 253 proclaimed offenders and 221 gamblers during the current year, a police spokesman said here Tuesday.

On the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan, all the Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) continued crackdown throughout the current year against proclaimed offenders and court absconders and arrested of 1,036 culprits involved in heinous crimes. According to details, City Zone arrested 67 proclaimed offenders, 167 court absconders, 75 gamblers while Saddar Zone apprehended 76 proclaimed offenders, 179 courts absconders and 64 gamblers.

Similarly, Industrial Area Zone nabbed 29 proclaimed offenders, 58 court absconders and 27 gamblers while Rural Zone nabbed 81 proclaimed offenders, 379 court absconders and 55 gamblers during this year.

SSP Islamabad Muhammad Yousuf Malik issued directions to make the campaign further effective as the performance of the police stations in-charges would be reviewed soon in this regard.—Staff Reporter
