PESHAWAR, Nov 11: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has directed the authorities concerned to identify culprits involved in kidnapping for ransom and proceed against them according to the law.

A high-level meeting, presided over by the governor here on Monday, reviewed the law and order situation in the province and the adjoining tribal areas.

The meeting after taking stock of the situation also devised a strategy for the future.

Chief Secretary Shakil Durrani, Home Secretary Mahmood Shah, IGFC Maj-Gen Tajul Haq, IGP Mohammad Saeed Khan, Commandant Frontier Constabulary Israr Shinwari, Commissioner Afghan Refugees Mushtaq Alizai, secretary to governor Sahibzada Saeed Ahmed, Chief Capital City Police Khurshid Alam Khan, Political Agent Khyber Dr Fida Wazir and other relevant officials attended the meeting.

The home secretary and the IGP, while referring to certain events, highlighted the overall situation in the province and FATA.

The governor emphasized early implementation of the directives, issued to the law enforcement agencies in the previous meeting, urging them to take immediate steps to complete the tasks assigned to them accordingly.

He also directed the authorities of the respective tribal areas to extend every support and cooperation to the law enforcement agencies in tightening the hold around the kidnappers.

The meeting was satisfied over the safe and secure recovery of the kidnapped persons, however it stressed that the precautionary and preventive measures should be too effective to avert any possibility of such occurrences in the future. The meeting also identified certain routes to be properly manned and watched round the clock by establishing additional pickets and police posts.

On a point, relating to protest demonstrations, the governor made it clear that no one was above the law, and directed the law enforcement agencies to proceed against the violators, irrespective of their status or position. He urged the police and administrations to ensure peace and stability at every cost.
