KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan on Tuesday said that some arrests were made with regards to Monday's suicide bombing targeting the residence of SP Mohammad Aslam Khan, better known as Chaudhry Aslam, who heads the anti-extremist cell of Sindh police’s Crime Investigation Department (CID), DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives in Karachi, Mr Wasan said that the number of people arrested, their identities and other details pertaining to the arrests could not yet be released.

Mr Wasan further claimed that the government would eliminate terrorism from Karachi like it eliminated target killings from the city.

An important meeting has also been called to discuss the city's security situation, he added.

Monday’s suicide bombing took place as a bomber drove an explosives-laden car into the home of the senior anti-terror police officer in Karachi’s Defence area, killing eight people, including a woman and her eight-year-old son.

Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
