LAHORE, Sept 18: An eight-year-old girl was killed in aerial firing at a wedding function in Kashmir Park in Nishtar Colony police precincts on Sunday.

Nishtar Colony SHO Muhammad Akmal said the marriage ceremony of Naeem Akbar was taking place in Sofiaabad when a youth identified as Kashif started firing in jubilation. The bullets hit eight-year-old Humiara and Mukhtar Ahmad who were taken to Lahore General Hospital where the girl succumbed to her wounds.

The SHO said a case had been registered against Kashif, bridegroom and his father on the complaint of girl's paternal uncle Gulzar Ahmad.

MURDERED: The decaying body of a 40-year-old junk dealer, who was abducted for Rs1 million ransom from Green Town four days ago, was found in a drain in Township on Sunday.

Green Town SHO Amir Saleem said Muhammad Akram, of Sector 1-D-II, was abducted by unidentified men who later demanded Rs1 million ransom from his family.

He said the kidnappers, however, strangled the father of four and threw his body in the drain. Apparently, the body was two to three days old, he added.

Green Town DSP Muhammad Mansha said that it appeared that Akram was kidnapped and murdered for some other reasons than ransom.
