TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 8: The breach in Jhang branch canal was plugged on Friday morning by the farmers and the irrigation staff after a struggle of more than 20 hours.

Though the irrigation department has ordered inquiry into the occurrence of the breach, the residents of Chak 286-JB and other villages alleged that the breach had taken place due to the negligence of the irrigation staff.

They claimed that the water supply was restored in the canal after about 20 days and in the meantime the banks of the canal had been weakened.

MURDER: A matriculation student of the Government High School Toba Tek Singh was killed on Friday allegedly by his three friends over a minor dispute.

Ahmad Ali, son of NBP’s city branch cashier Muhammad Asghar, had exchanged hot words with his friends Javed Iqbal alias Jedi, Shahbaz Ahmad and Muhammad Imran during a discussion on some matter. The three forced him to take poison.

Ahmad was admitted to the DHQ hospital where he died.

Doctors on duty confirmed that the cause of death was poisoning.
