KARACHI, Nov 8: The special anti-narcotics court, headed by Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada, acquitted on Friday a man in a drug possession case.

Ameer Hamza was arrested by the Mominabad police on Aug 23 last year and police claimed the seizure of 1.2kg charas from him.

The judge, however, acquitted him of the charge as the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond any reasonable doubt.

The accused was represented by Ms Shazia Hakim.

The same court convicted three Nigerians of attempt to smuggle out heroin.

Aninla Jamiu Abiodun was arrested on Nov 23 last year at Quaid-i-Azam International Airport by the Anti-narcotics Force. He was found carrying a little over one kilogramme heroin, stuffed into 69 capsules, in his body cavity.

Emika Christian, arrested on Feb 13 this year at the airport by the ANF, had hidden 924 grams of heroin, stuffed into 107 capsules.

Victor Papa, who had 850 grams of heroin, stuffed into 70 capsules, was arrested by the ANF on April 29 this year.

The judge handed down an identical sentence - five years’ rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs50,000 — to the drug traffickers. They would have to undergo an additional three months’ RI if they failed to pay the fine.
