LAHORE, Sept 2: Four people were murdered and three others sustained injured while a teenaged girl, who was set afire by her stepmother, succumbed to her burn wounds during Eid holidays, the police said.

The bodies were handed over to respective families after autopsies and cases were registered against absconding suspects.

Batapur police said Akmal, 22, was shot dead and his uncle Ilyas and two others were injured when rivals Javed and Sajjad opened fire on them after Eid prayers.

The motive behind the attack was said to be a murder litigation as the victim side had killed a member of the rival group.

Akmal’s father Abdul Haq and brother Ahmad are in jail in connection with the murder of a relative of Javed.

The police registered a case against 10 people on the complaint of Akmal’s wife Lubna.

Green Town police said Rizwan, 25, was shot dead allegedly by Kamran alias Kali and Shakir Ali after an argument in Zia Colony on Eid day.

The suspects, who called the victim outside his home, fled the scene after shooting.

The police said Rizwan had tried to mediate between the suspects and Irfan.

Kot Lakhpat police said property dealer Riasat, 50, was found murdered in a several feet deep mud hole on Chadraiay Road.Officers reached the spot on an emergency call and found the man strangled with a piece of cloth. The police also found torture marks on the body.

The police said the motive behind the killing was said to be an old rivalry between the victim and his opponents Rajputs of Phularwan area of Lahore district.

Mughalpura police said 14-year-old Aqsa succumbed to her burns at Mayo Hospital on Thursday last 26 days after she was set on fire by her stepmother Rukhsana following some domestic dispute in Sahowari area.

A murder case was registered against the woman who was taken into custody by the police.

The family lodged a protest outside the Lahore Press Club and demanded strict action against the suspect.
