RAWALPINDI, Sept 2: A police constable who allegedly attempted to rape a Chinese woman engineer working at under construction Benazir Bhutto International Airport at Fatehjang Road was arrested and sent to Adiala jail on Friday, police said.

However, the accused official denied the charges.

The project manager, also a Chinese, of the new airport lodged a complaint with the Westridge police saying that constable, deployed on security duty, tried to molest a female civil engineer at her room in the residential colony.

He said on hearing her screams, her colleagues residing in the colony rushed to her rescue and overpowered the constable.

Le Gang said: “She was working on laptop last night when the police guard entered into her private room and made an attempt to molest her.”

After the incident was brought into the notice of local police, the SSP Operation Yasin Farooq, SP Potohar Division and acting SHO Mian Imran reached the crime scene and recorded the statement of the complainant.

Later the accused constable, who had joined the Punjab Police some four years ago, was arrested and a case was registered against him under Police Order 2002. A senior police official said, “The accused was arrested and sent to Adiala jail on Friday.”

However, the accused constable disputed the allegations of the Chinese engineer saying that a group of Chinese was enjoying a party and were drunk. He alleged that as they saw him, the drunken men started beating him. On seeing him being beaten, the other police constables deployed there rushed to his rescue.

He said as they saw the police men rushing to his rescue, they concocted a story against him.
