ISLAMABAD, Aug 18: Three alleged car thieves were arrested after a brief encounter with the police party in Sector I-8/1 on Thursday, police said.

An Afghan national Said Wali sustained bullet injuries during the encounter and was nabbed by the police party. His accomplice Javed Khan, a native of Mardan was also arrested while three others managed to escape from the scene.

Earlier, on a tip-off, the CIA police team headed by its in-charge Bashir Ahmed Noon raided the hideout of the car thieves in Sector I-8/1. Seeing the police, the group of five thieves opened fire at them and rushed to the wooded area.

In retaliation, the police team also opened fire at the fleeing thieves resultantly Said Wali received bullet injuries. He fell on the ground and was arrested. Moreover, the raiding party arrested Javed Khan while three others managed to escape from the scene.

Meanwhile, the police received information that the fleeing culprits snatched a motorcycle from a person. The police team arrested the third car thief.

However, the remaining two escaped from the scene on foot leaving behind the motorcycle. The arrested person was identified as Hashmat, a native of Nowshera.

Three pistols were also recovered from them and further investigation was underway from them as a police team was constituted to arrest the two escapees.
