TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 5: Four persons were held for trying to loot the house of a judge on Monday night.

Senior Civil Judge Mohammad Afzal Zahid was away when the alleged dacoits forced their way into his house at the Officers Colony, took his servant hostage at gunpoint, locked him in a room and collected Rs164,000 in cash and 41 tolas of gold ornaments. They were coming out of the house when the judge and his family arrived. One of the dacoits fired at the judge who, however, remained unhurt.

The judge informed the police who followed the dacoits and apprehended one of them, who revealed the names of his accomplices during preliminary investigation. The police arrested all of them and recovered the looted valuables.

The dacoits were identified as Rana Hasnain Raza, son of Tehsil Municipal Administration chief officer Rana Mohammad Hanif, former civil court employee Mohammad Younis, suspended civil court employee Imran Anwar and Mohammad Idrees.

REMANDED: An ASI and an Excise & Taxation (E&T) inspector were remanded in judicial custody for allegedly extorting Rs60,000 from a milkman of Chak 291-GB.

ASI Mehr Talib Hussain Sargana and E&T Inspector Mohammad Farooq had been arrested by Rajana police on the order of higher authorities.

A source disclosed that a woman of Rajana in connivance with the accused called the milkman, Allah Ditta, to her house. Later, the three of them tried to implicate the milkman in an adultery case. The ASI and excise inspector reportedly started blackmailing the milkman and extorted Rs60,000 from him.

The milkman complained the matter to the SP who ordered an inquiry and found the two officials guilty of the alleged offence. The SP suspended the service of ASI.
