KARACHI, Aug 16: A convict in the Sarfraz Shah murder case on Tuesday filed an appeal in the Sindh High Court against his conviction by an anti-terrorism court.

In his appeal, Mohammad Afsar Khan through his counsel Amer Nawaz said that on the day of the incident he was on duty at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park.

He said he had nothing to do with the murder. He just handed over Sarfraz to Rangers personnel as the young man was allegedly snatching a mobile phone from a visitor, he added.

In his appeal, he prayed to the SHC to set aside the life term awarded to him by the ATC.

The ATC headed by Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso sentenced Shahid Zafar, a constable of Sindh Rangers, to death and jailed six co-accused in the case for life.

The case was registered at the Boat Basin police station on June 9 under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against the six Rangers personnel and a civilian, Mohammad Afsar (the appellant).—APP
