MANSEHRA, Aug 15: Police have arrested five members of a robbers’ gang, including a constable of the Frontier Constabulary, and recovered stolen goods and arms from their possession.

The five armed men wearing police uniform entered the house of Badri Zaman in Chonga Khatai area of Oghi on Sunday on the pretext of carrying out search for outlaws.

During search, the robbers collected gold ornaments, cash and other valuables and asked the inmates to receive the same from the Oghi police station on Monday. Mr Zaman informed the police about the incident by telephone.

The police party, headed by SHOs of Oghi and Battal, raided a hotel in Battal on Sunday night and arrested Mohammad Nazir, Mohammad Ashraf, Bilal Khan, Mohammad Hanif and Mohammad Umar and recovered stolen goods, Kalashnikovs and other valuables from their possession.

Mansehra DPO Tahir Ayub, meanwhile, told a press conference that the gang was involved in many robberies in Mansehra and other parts of the province.

He said that one of the robbers Mohammad Ashraf was a constable in the Frontier Constabulary. He said that the alleged ringleader, Mohammad Naveed, fled the scene before the police raid.

3 KILLED ON ROAD: Three people were killed and five others sustained critical injuries in two traffic accidents here on Monday, police said.

The first accident occurred in Kohala Sari area in Oghi when a Torghar-bound passenger jeep plunged into a ravine. Driver Alizar Khan and a passenger Kalo Khan died on the spot while the conductor jumped out of the jeep before the accident and saved himself.

The second accident took place in Kaghan valley when a Haripur-bound truck fell into a ravine. As a result, driver Laiq Zaman of Mardan died on the spot while Mohammad Nawaz, Shahnawaz, Rasheed, Guljan and Khan Rawal sustained critical injuries. They were taken to the civil hospital in Balakot.
