Woman dies in house collapse

ATTOCK, Aug 15: A woman died and two members of her family sustained serious injuries when the roof of their mud house caved in at the Sheenbagh village here on Monday.

Two women and a boy were inside the house of Ghulam Khan when the incident occurred.

The local people rescued a 25-year-old woman, Asiya Bibi, and a five-year-old boy, Shahid, and took them to the district headquarters hospital. However, Bahar Bibi, 45, died on the spot.

BODY RECOVERED: Meanwhile, the unidentified body of a man was recovered from the Haro River near Sheenbagh village. The body was later handed over to the tehsil municipal administration after an autopsy at the DHQ hospital for burial. — Correspondent

Nato oil tanker torched

ATTOCK, Aug 15: A Nato oil tanker was burnt allegedly by its driver and conductor at Shamsabad village link road in the jurisdiction of the Rangu police, it has been burnt.

Police said they reached the spot after information about the torching of the oil tanker (TLB-805) near G.T. Road on Sunday night. The fire brigade was also called to the venue unit.

The police suspected that the driver and conductor could be involved in torching the oil tanker as no one was found at the crime scene.

The police said it was a common practice that drivers and conductors burnt the tankers after stealing oil from it. However, the police are investigating the incident after registration of a report. — Correspondent

Civil judge resigns

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15: Wajid Hussain Mughal, a civil judge of Islamabad, has resigned after he was transferred to Kot Addu.

Confirming his resignation, the judge maintained that his transfer to a far flung area is a violation of the guidelines of National Judicial Policy.

According to the policy, judicial officers with higher disposal rate are entitled for transfer to a place of their own choice, he pointed out. He said he has disposed of more than 7,000 cases in just 17 months. “My position was better than other judicial officers of Islamabad judiciary.”

Wajid Mughal said in his case, the policy guidelines were ignored. — A Reporter

Stuntmen baton charged

CHAKWAL, Aug 15: Police resorted to baton charge to disperse stuntmen who came on their motorbikes to celebrate 65th Independence Day late on Sunday night.

According to police, a group of youngsters gathered on a city road and tried to do wheelie which caught police's attention who tried to stop them from doing it but they did not pay any heed to their request.

At this, the police use baton charge to disperse them.

Later, the youngsters blocked Bhoun Chowk by burning tires to protest the baton charge. — Correspondent

Japanese loan

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15: The Japanese government will provide $65 million loan for the procurement of polio vaccine.

The funds under the soft term Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan are aimed at covering the expense of polio campaigns in September 2011 and onwards.

JICA Director-General for South Asia, Masataka Nakahara and Additional Secretary of Economic Affairs Division Hassan Nawaz Tarar signed the loan agreement here on Monday. Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Oe, and Secretary Economic Affairs Division Abdul Wajid Rana were present on the occasion.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will support the campaign through the procurement of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) and service provision under the polio eradication project which is to optimize immunization of polio vaccine to children under 5 years. — Our Reporter

Gangs of car-lifters busted

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Islamabad police busted three gangs of car lifters and robbers and recovered seven vehicles and stolen items worth Rs10 million from their possession, said a police spokesman.

Special teams constituted under the supervision of SP (investigation) Liaquat Ali arrested 18 persons, including two receivers of stolen vhicles, car thieves and robbers. Five stolen cars, six cellphones, six pistols, one Kalashnikov and stolen valuables worth over Rs10 million were recovered from them.

The arrested car receivers have been identified as Razim alias Haji, of Peshawar and Riazur Rehman son of Mardan.— APP
