KARACHI, Aug 14: A young man and his transvestite friend were shot dead in Orangi Town on Sunday, police said.

A duty officer of the Orangi Town police station said that the incident took place in Data Nagri behind the Qatar Hospital where 28-year-old Kamran alias Kamu, son of Ghulam Mohammad, and a transvestite identified as Wajahat alias Mastan were shot dead by unidentified people at around 4pm.

SP Shahjehan Khan said that Wajahat was gunned down on the doorstep of a house while Kamran was killed in the same street.

The police believed Kamran apparently had managed to flee the house, but he was chased by the attackers and shot dead in the street.

Both the victims suffered multiple bullet wounds and were pronounced dead on arrival at the nearby Qatar Hospital, the police said.

The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.

“We believe that some other members of the transvestite community had resented their friendship and they may be behind these killings,” the SP remarked.

The police have collected spent bullet casings from the crime scene.

An FIR pertaining to the killings was yet to be registered at the police station concerned.

Man gunned down in Garden

A man was gunned down apparently in a targeted attack within the remit of the Garden police station just minutes before Iftar on Sunday, police said.

They said that 35-year-old Asif Mohammad, son of Noor Mohammad, was walking home near the Garden Shoe Market in Shahbaznagar when two men riding on a motorcycle shot him and fled.

The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police said that Asif worked as a salesman in the Bolton Market and belonged to the Kutchi Memon community.

KESC employee killed

A man said to be a KESC employee who had become involved in an altercation with some people over repair of a fault was gunned down in Sector 11-G of New Karachi on Sunday, police said.

The duty officer at the police station concerned said that a protest over outages was being staged in Sector 11-G in Godhara when a KESC team arrived there to repair the fault.

A KESC employee, 45-year-old Qamar Alam, son of Abdul Baqi, became involved in an altercation with some people among the crowd. New Karachi Industrial Area SHO Ishtiaq Ghauri claimed that Qamar was allegedly shot by Faizan, son of Haji Ahmed. The suspect was still at large, he added.
